Jefferson - On June 1st, Bull Durham Playhouse will open its doors at 124 E. Austin St., Jefferson, as a venue for local actors, musicians and other artists to showcase their work in a family-friendly environment. “This is an opportunity for the people of East Texas and our visitors to see just how much talent there is here. It’s been a long time since Jefferson has had this sort of entertainment available on a weekly basis,” said Playhouse co-founder Bill Smith. In addition to offering space for productions by other local groups, Smith, along with his former Haywood House Theatre partner Andy Looney will present weekly comedies, melodramas, murder mysteries and music. The Playhouse’s first production, set to run June 1st through July 7th will be “Special Delivery,” a comedy/music variety show made up, in part, of original pieces written by Smith and Looney.
The Coffee Bar will offer gourmet coffee, tea, snacks and WiFi access. Wall space will be available for local artists to display and sell their works in, what Smith described as “a comfortable place to sip a cup of coffee and read, listen to music, or just relax.”
